Well, guys, in this case misery DOESNT love company. I don't know what kind of monolithic "s___w em, there's another dope out there when this one cancels" company Intuit is, but they sure as heck don't have a customer service gene in their corporate DNA. I run a small interior design firm that operates almost exclusively on referrals. Since I use QuickBooks for my accounting functions, I thought it was a no brainer to utilize their service for the rare time when a client wished to utilize their credit card. From the first charges presented, I have been grilled - time and again - by their "Risk Management" department who have held up credit to my bank account for days - even weeks at a time. I set this whole nightmare up as a favor to my customer, who now is livid with me that things aren't happening in a "timely and businesslike" fashion. I am told repeatedly that "your invoices are too high" They repeatedly ask probing and none-of-their-business like questions. After phoning my client about initial purchases to her card, and receiving her assurance that I was, indeed, a legitimate service provider and that I was fully authorized to place the transactions, they STILL have held up 12,000.00 worth of cash. I am more than steamed, I am really sorry I fell into this trap. Thanks for the head's up about cancellation fees, I'll review my contract and see how much more this "Cadillac"-type of service will cost me.

I blame my own ignorance and naivety when I signed up with Intuit's Quickbooks POS and Accounting. But I also blame the salesperson, Darrell, for answering my questions positively (in reality the answers were different) - basically he told me what I wanted to hear. With Quickbooks and Merchant Services, nothing was explained to me as to how the system worked. If so, I would have reconsidered. Did you know that if you have POS and Accounting you have 2 Merchant Service accounts for which you are charged fees, even if, like me, you are only using one? I am lucky that today, I was given a credit for money on the account I wasn't using and it was closed so nothing further will acrue. I blame myself for not doing more research but if you're starting your 1st business, it's not always easy to think straight. I feel taken advantage of, tho I must say, all the customer service reps have been very nice. But still, I would never have signed up with Intuit in the first place after some other stuff I had to deal with them about. They make it so complicated.

Called to close my account since I found another company with lower rates and after they closed it, they told be, oh by the way, you are being charged $295.
I asked why I am being charged and they said it was in the contract when I signed it.
I said, ok then leave it open and i was told TOO LATE we already charged your account.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! STAY AWAY FROM INTUIT MERCHANT SERVICES! STAY FAR AWAY!

Yea, me too. Depending on your business size and how you do billing, PayPal may be your best bet. I'm not sure on the total cost difference over the long term, but the hassle difference is astounding ; ) You can just have a "payments" page on your site where your customers fill out the payment form (they don't need a paypal account- just a credit card) and you receive the money right away. Much easier than processing faxed payment authorizations (as I do at this point).

Wow, I sure wish I would have done more research before opening a merchant services account with intuit. It's been a nightmare.

Hey Jon,

I am a new business owner researching which merchant service company to use for credit card transactions/processing. I saw Intuit advertisements, which lead me to look at them in more depth. After reading your experience and some of the comments here, I will NOT use Intuit.

It's actually pretty pathetic of them to only solve your problem after you went to the trouble of posting about it on the internet. They paid attention only because they know other prospective customers read this stuff. Well guess what Intuit, here's one more customer who takes his biz elsewhere for how you treated this guy.

Thanks for posting your experience!

Like Rob McEachern I am VERY frustrated with Intuits Merchant Service. I overlooked the charge that was coming out of my checking accout on the 3rd of each month. We tried the credit card with Merchant Service and could not get it to work AT ALL. We filled out the form and sent it back to them. The service had two months "free". We thought that it was all canceled until I checked into it and foud that they have been stealing money out of my bank account for 1 year and one month( March 2010 to March 2011) . They started taking $39.95 out of my bank accout each mouth. After two hours on the phone they said that they would refund the last three months. I have not seen a penny of the promised return. I am thinking I will get my bank to block the charges and contest the charges for the last couple of months. It sounds like Rob is having problems getting his charges blocked/stoped. I will work on it more soon and follow up with what happens.

It's definitely a mental labyrinth. I was amazed at the frustrating process I had to go through, all for $25. At some point, it's not about the money and you just keep going because you're amazed at the hoops you're being forced through.
